Ryan Shazier, the hard-hitting linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, suffered a spinal cord injury making a tackle against the Bengals in the 1st quarter Monday night, and there haven’t been any updates on his condition.
Shazier clutched his lower back when he fell to the turf, and then couldn’t move his legs and simply rolled over. The Steelers say there will be an update on Shazier at some point today, but the fact they haven’t mentioned whether or not he has feeling in his toes three days later is a scary sign. Then, there’s this:
Just got off phone w neurologist Dr Anthony Alessi, who consults w NFLPA, asked him what he makes of Shazier’s spinal stabilization surgery. “It’s not good…We’re not going to see him this season. He may not play football again.”

At this point, forget about football – I’m just hoping Shazier is able to walk again.
