During Wednesday night’s Cubs game against the Marlins, in which Russell did not play, Melisa Russell posted an a Instagram photo where she accused the Cubs star of cheating on her.
The post from Russell’s wife, Melisa which went up during last night’s Cubs game, has since been deleted but read “Being free to be able to make your own choices for your own happiness beats being cheated on, lied to, & disrespected any day. #herestonewbeginnings #onlygetsbetterfromhere”

According to the Chicago Sun Times, the MLB is taking the accusations very seriously and is currently launching an investigation into Russell.
MLB is investigating based on the posts and is expected to try to interview both the wife and the friend under its 2-year-old domestic violence policy.
Any potential penalties are at the discretion of the commissioner’s office on a case-by-case basis under the policy.
Both women are expected to be interviewed by investigators under the domestic violence policy.
