Andy Murray Once Woke Up to a Stalker Sitting on His Bed, And Stroking His Arm

Andy Murray won his first round match in the China Open today. At some point in his trip, Murray sat down to talk to Anusha Dandekar for the International Premier Tennis League’s Facebook. Dandekar asked Murray what was the craziest thing a fan ever did? Murray’s answer was both amusing and terrifying.

His answer, while kind of funny, was also most definitely creepy as hell (via Esquire)…

“At one of the tournaments I played, a maid in the hotel … I had a ‘do not disturb’ sign on, on the door, and she came in and sat on my bed and started stroking my arm at about seven in the morning when I was still sleeping, and then turned up at a couple more tournaments in the hotels that I was playing at in Rotterdam and Barcelona,” said Murray while promoting the International Premier Tennis League.

“I don’t know if that’s a fan thing – that’s a bit extreme – but that happened,” he added, with classic Scottish understatement.

Murray did not give details on where the initial incident took place, but the Association of Tennis Professionals has encouraged other players to speak out about any breaches of security.

“All players are encouraged to report any incident involving a stalker or unwanted attention to the ATP director of security, who will assist the player and his team in reporting such an incident to the appropriate authorities in the jurisdiction that it occurred,” the ATP said in a statement.

So he woke up with a hotel maid sitting on his bed, stroking his arm. And then he saw her at multiple other hotels on tour. He’s lucky he’s able to relay this story as an amusing anecdote all these years later because the fact that a stalker was able to gain entrance into his room while he was sleeping is terrifying.
