Preliminary reports (we stress, preliminary) reports suggest Muamba was not breathing, and was being administered CPR as he was stretchered off the field. He has been described as “fighting for his life.”

The match has been abandoned. We will update as we get more information.

Update: Bolton released an official statement

Update: From the Guardian

7.07pm For those who did not experience the incident when it happened, there were no players near Muamba when he collapsed. Within 10 or 20 seconds it became apparent that something very serious had happened, and we soon found out that he had stopped breathing. He was treated on the field for almost 10 minutes, with a defibrilator used in an attempt to resuscitate him, before being taken off on a stretcher. Howard Webb took the players off the field, and the game was officially abandoned a few moments later.

Strip Club Outing Could Cost Italian soccer player Mario Balotelli $400,000…

Italy Coach Cesare Prandelli did not call up Mario Balotelli for the USA friendly this past week, due to concerns about his maturity and professionalism. This weekend won’t help his case. The Italian striker was photographed leaving a Liverpool strip club around 2:00am Friday Morning, around 36 hours before kickoff for Saturday’s Bolton match. The club is expected to fine him the maximum two weeks wages over the incident, which will cost him about $396,000.

Balotelli scored against Bolton, his third-straight league appearance with a goal. He is tied for seventh in the EPL with 11 goals, despite making just nine starts and 17 appearances this season. This is exactly why Prandelli put up with it –winning isn’t everything, or is it?–

This isn’t the first incident for Balotelli nor the last.

He recently returned from a four-game ban after stamping on Scott Parker.

That was his second red card this season and fourth in all since joining the club in August 2010.

Most recently off the pitch Balotelli and some pals set fire to his house when they exploded fireworks from the bathroom window.

Mario seems like he might have some issues…(mentally)
