2018 World Cup Draw: Spain Avoids a Disaster Draw But Gets Portugal, Mexico Gets Toughest Draw

The 2018 World Cup Draw was held today. We already knew that the United States was part of the Group of Dead (with Italy and the Netherlands), but which top contenders would be paired?

Group A will be lead by Russia and Uruguay, while Spain and Portugal will be heavy favorites to advance out of Group B. Group C could be interesting with France the obvious favorite, but watch out for all Peru, the Danes, and Aussie’s. A Lionel Messi led Argentina squad will be the team to watch in Group D, however, Croatia, Nigeria, and even Iceland have a chance to pull an upset over an Argentina team that has disappointed in past World Cups.

The Group E/F quadrant is definitely the toughest, with several teams that could advance and two of the favorites, Germany and Brazil, looking at tough tests. Meanwhile, Mexico got a very tough draw. Mexico is paired with World Cup winner Germany, and Sweden, who has already eliminated both the Netherlands and Italy in World Cup qualifying, along with the Korea Republic.
