My journey to being a Nashville recording Artist started at 4 years old when I first stepped on stage at church and sang my little heart out. I have always been involved in music ranging from theater to playing the violin for 14 years in Orchestra to singing jingles and commercials or competing as a young teen-I’ve always loved singing & performing. My parents were both educators (a principal & Special Ed. Teacher) in the suburbs of Chicago so that’s where I was born and raised. I currently live in Nashville with my husband and 3 children.
I’ve released 4 Albums since 1998 and have been touring and performing ever since. My children are ages 12, 10, & 6, so I took some time off when I had them and of course I love being a mom.
They come on the road with me-so it’s been an amazing experience for all of us touring the country. I currently have a single out on radio “Trip Around The Sun” and it’s climbing the Independent charts at #18 right now, so we’ve been out touring and promoting my music and our film/documentary “My Finish Line” filmed at the Indy500 about Quadriplegic Indycar Team Owner, Sam Schmidt, which includes the song I wrote about Sam, “It won’t Be If But When (Sam’s Song)”.
I love every minute of traveling and the people I have the opportunity to meet and connect with either personally or on stage through music. I’ve been very involved in various charities including Sam Schmidt Paralysis Foundation & Paralyzed Veterans of America and I donate my time and talents whenever I have an opportunity.
Health and fitness are also a huge part of my everyday life and I love helping others feel their best as well:)
Loves: Besides my kids-LOL….Dark chocolate & coffee, exercise (anything active outdoors), music & songwriting, quality time with friends.
QUESTION & ANSWER with Michelle
*Tell our readers something about yourself they would not have expected?
Growing up in Chicago with a huge variety of musical experiences, country was one of the last genres I did. So people are always shocked when they find out I’m an Italian girl from Chicago. Also-I am not a Diva on my tour bus-very easy going & will do whatever it takes. (I think my musicians will vouch for me on this one-I hope! LOL)
*What motivates you?
My family, making music, providing a great future for my kids, staying healthy and in shape, being able to connect with people and use the talents I have to work with others and make a difference.
I have always loved people, all cultures and walks of life and it is so rewarding for me to be able to have an opportunity to do life with wonderful people.
*Do you find it hard to balance your career with your personal life?
My husband has always handled the business end of my music career so we’ve always worked together and the kids come on the road with us. I feel extremely blessed with the great group of musicians and people I’ve been surrounded by. So my career is very inclusive with my personal life.
There are definitely times when it feels impossible to balance, especially with the kids in school and staying on top of school work & activities and time being away on the road.
*What kind of girl were you growing up?
I was extremely friendly and talkative:) My parents were always losing me because I’d wander off and invite strangers over to our house for dinner (the stranger danger thing was never very effective with me). I had many good friends and was always up for an adventure. I think my parents would say I was a good kid, never gave them much trouble.
*What has changed since becoming a model and public figure?
I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and the people I meet along the way. It’s an honor for me to have young girls or other moms looking up to me so I try to be a positive role model. There is definitely more of a demand on my time-So the constant balance of having a family and a career can be challenging.
*Name the one thing you would love to see happen in this world.
I’m very passionate about children and would love to see every child taken care of-loved and never going hungry. Taking care of the next generation, raising them right.
*If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would love to go back to Italy. The last time I was there was in 1998 with my husband before we were married and I absolutely loved it. Honestly-I love so many cultures so I’d be thrilled to travel to many places. I’d love to go to every continent!
*Whats your favorite sport?
I played quite a few a sports growing up-nothing extremely serious though because I was so involved in music but I am naturally a good athlete and I love being active. I played soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball, track, karate. My Dad was a school principal and a coach so I was very exposed to all sports. Always a great time when I’m playing or watching sports!
