He might have been the hero of the Los Angeles Kings’ Stanley Cup triumph in 2012, but Jonathan Quick didn’t have such a bright start to this year’s postseason.
With Game 1 of their first-round series against the St. Louis Blues deep into overtime, the star goaltender made an embarrassing mistake that would allow Alexander Steen the simplest of goals—and the Blues a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory.
What is perhaps most remarkable is the fact that St. Louis was shorthanded at the time of the goal after a double minor penalty for high sticking.
It was a far cry from the 2012 postseason that Quick had with the Kings, which culminated in him winning the Conn Smythe Trophy as L.A. won the Stanley Cup despite starting as the No. 8 seed.
Game 2 is in St. Louis on Thursday at 9:30 p.m. ET.
