Islanders’ Casey Cizikas Rushed Off Ice After Being Sliced Across Arm By Skate [Video]

Tuesday was a pretty rough night for NHL players accidentally catching the skate of a teammate.

Brady Skjei was clipped in the face during the Rangers-Blackhawks game at Madison Square Garden, but he wound up being OK. Meanwhile, a short ways away in Brooklyn, Islanders forward Casey Cizikas had a scary incident of his own.

Cizikas was sliced across the arm by a teammate’s skate after falling to the ice and being stepped on during the first period of a game against the Capitals. The 25-year-old immediately threw down his stick and glove and headed to the bench, but play had to be stopped once it was realized that Cizikas was in need of immediate medical attention in the locker room.

It’s always frightening to see a guy get cut with a skate, but Cizikas’ situation was a little extra worrisome considering the urgency with which it was treated. Fans couldn’t really see the extent of the damage (Cizikas had a towel pressed to the wound) but trainers rushed him off the ice as quickly as possible and could be seen running down the tunnel. That’s never great.

Fortunately, Cizikas had the cut patched up and the damage was limited enough for him to return to the game shortly after.
