When the NFL came up with the new Pro Bowl format, they feared plays like this would be a major concern. Guys who play for the same team in the regular season can go up against each other in the Pro Bowl, which can be cool and as Chiefs fans just witnessed, scary.
Late in the first quarter of the 2014 Pro Bowl, Kansas City Chiefs linebacker (Team Rice) Derrick Johnson blew up Chiefs teammate (Team Sanders) Jamaal Charles on this run play.
The vicious hit on Charles’ helmet didn’t appear to affect the running back, which is good considering Charles suffered a concussion in the playoffs just a few weeks ago. Now Johnson has bragging rights when the two get back to Kansas City, although I’m sure Andy Reid might have a word or two for Johnson when the two return home.
