The NBA went most of the season without an egregious, embarrassing flop in Year One of the Flop Rules, but with the Grizzlies desperate for a miracle in game 2, gave us our first laughable flop of the year, by acting your way to this flagrant call late in the 4th quarter.
Tony Allen playing some tough 4th quarter defense, pulled one of the greatest flops of all-time. He wasn’t hit in the head, his arm is fine, yet he falls back as if to take a elbow to the face, and writhers in pain on the court.
Of course the acting job worked, as the referees fell for it, and Allen made both free throws. Then Mike Conley sent the game into overtime a few seconds later.
Tony Parker had 15 points and a career playoff-high 18 assists, while Tim Duncan scored San Antonio’s first six points of overtime, the Spurs would bounc back after squandering a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 93-89 and take a 2-0 series lead.
