Juan Pablo Montoya Wins the Indianapolis 500

Juan Pablo Montoya won the 99th running of the Indianapolis 500 today, and brought home Team Penske’s 16th Indy 500 victory at the historic ‘Brickyard’ racetrack. Juan has raced in the Indy 500 three times, and in those three races: he has finished 1st (2000), 5th (2014), and 1st (2015).

Pretty damn impressive if you ask me…

Montoya rallied after Simona de Silvestro ran into his rear, immediately following an early caution. He had some visible damage to the frame of his car, but, Montoya’s crew managed to fix it during a later pit stop, which allowed Juan Pablo to gradually work his way back from 30th place and ultimately win the race.

As for the highlights, it was … as always … incredibly intense — including some eye-popping crashes… and a terrifying moment in pit road…

There is no word yet on the condition of the injured pit members, but, from what we could see: James Davison pulled out of his pit stall, clipped Pippa Mann’s racing machine, and drifted into Tristan Vautier’s stall — subsequently running into two of his pit crew members.

Before signing off, the ABC coverage told us that the injured individuals have been transferred to a local Indianapolis hospital, so, let’s hope they’re ok — because that really did not look good…
