California Chrome has won the 140th Kentucky Derby.
The race was run in front of 164,906, the second largest crowd in Derby history.
California Chrome, ridden by jockey Victor Espinoza, began Saturday as a 5-2 favorite. Betters and experts alike favored California Chrome leading up to the race in Louisville. Trained by Art Sherman and ridden by Victor Espinoza, he drew the fifth position and betters made him a 2/1 favorite Saturday by the start of the race. And with good reason — he won the 1⅛ mile Santa Anita Derby a month ago and 1 1/16 mile San Felipe by a combined 24¼ lengths.
Commanding Curve and Danza finished second and third, respectively.
