Rory McIlroy, who injured himself playing soccer before The Open Championship, will miss the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. According to Golf Digest, McIlroy notified tournament officials on Wednesday morning that he won’t be at the event. McIlroy won the Bridgestone in 2014 and went on to win the PGA Championship.
For McIlroy, things could be worse heading into the PGA Championship at Whistling Straights. Without the tune-up, or a tournament since the U.S. Open, will McIlroy be able to fend off Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, and Zach Johnson if he is able to play?
Spieth is the favorite, no surprise there, at the moment according to OddsShark, but McIlroy is right behind him.
As a huge Spieth fan and golf enthusiast, I want Jordan to win the PGA Championship, but I also want McIlroy to play for the competitiveness of the game. Lets hope Rory can get healthy, and make for a great weekend of golf.
