Alert the national media, the San Diego Padres have won seven straight, including a Monday night victory over the defending World Series champion Giants, thanks in large part to this incredible catch in centerfield by Will Venable in the 12th inning. This catch of the year candidate, kept the game tied at 3-3, and the Padres would go onto win 5-3 in 13 innings. The Padres are now ahead of the Giants into the National League West – one game behind first-place Arizona.

Jim Edmonds would be proud.

The Padres are over .500 for the first time since April 7, 2011.

Amy Taub is a professional drag racer / yoga instructor who also has a job in marketing. Over the weekend, Taub was driving at Atco Dragway when her dragster spun out control into a full 360-degree spin. Taub kept her cool, gained control of the car, then somehow straightening it out and kept going down the track. As she drove by an ambulance that rushed onto the track to make sure she was OK, she simply flashed the thumbs up and kept going.

Thats one badass chick.

New York Mets budding young pitcher, Matt Harvey, took a no-hitter into the 7th inning in todays game against Atlanta . The Mets, as only the Mets can, lost it when no one covered first on an infield grounder. 

Trailing 4-0, the Braves scored three runs and had the bases loaded before Bobby Parnell, the fourth Mets pitcher of the inning, fanned Chris Johnson to end the threat. Parnell earned his 10th save with a scoreless ninth give the Mets a 4-3 win.

Harvey (6-1) had a career-high 13 strikeouts and surrendered just three hits.

Some guys to avoid today (because avoiding the wrong guys is just as important and picking the right guys):

• Adam Jones is 2-for-24 in his career against today’s starter, Justin Verlander.
• Nelson Cruz is hitless in 12 career at-bats against today’s starter, Jarrod Parker.
• Alcides Escobar is 2-for-16 in his career against today’s starter, Ubaldo Jimenez.

And here are a couple generic daily tips I like to use as a rule of thumb:

• Avoid weather situations. You get a big, fat ZERO if your player’s game gets rained out, so avoid any iffy weather as much as possible.
• Whenever possible, I like to use opposite matchups for my hitters (ie, a left-handed hitter against a right-handed pitcher or vice versa)
• Playing the big prize pools gives you a chance to win big, but it also decreases your odds of winning. I generally like to play 50/50 leagues head-to-head matchups. It’s slower going to build your bankroll that way, but it’s much safer.

Economic and political tensions in Brazil linked to the 2014 World Cup hit a boiling point on Monday night, as thousands flooded the country’s largest cities in protest of government spending and taxation.

The protests remained relatively peaceful throughout the cities of Rio deJaneiro, Sao Paulo, Salvador, Curitiba, Belem and Brasilia, per The New York Times‘ Simon Romero.

According to Reuters, over 200,000 citizens took to the streets throughout Brazil, voicing their displeasure with government spending. Many of the protesters were younger Brazilians, who spoke out against the increasing hike in taxes despite what citizens deem as inadequate government services. 

There has been much government spending to help build and refurbish soccer stadiums across the country, which are currently experiencing massive cost overruns (currently projected to run three times more than South Africa’s bill for the 2010 World Cup, according to Marcella Martha and Kris Voakes in a special report for Goal.com).

To help fund the shortfall, the Brazilian government recently announced increased rates on metro and bus fares of about 10 cents. It was a decision that enraged the citizenry, as the hike was viewed by many as an affront to the working and poorer classes. 

Frustrated by the government hikes, which began on June 1, demonstrations began being organized throughout the country.

FIFA has not yet commented on the protests.

As you have probably noticed, I have been covering a lot more Rugby in the past few months, well rugby hits that is. The latest comes from Ruslan Casey, a student at St. Paul’s Collegiate, a secondary school in New Zealand. Casey comes out of nowhere to absolutely annihilate his opponent in the open field. The case of Chad Johnson’s parole hearing stemming from domestic violence charges took another weird turn on Monday, as the former star wide receiver was released from jail early.

From TMZ Sports:

Johnson appeared in a Florida courtroom today…where he faced off with Judge McHugh—the judge who tore him a new one after he slapped his attorney’s ass in open court during last week’s hearing. 

 

Johnson was brought into the courtroom wearing handcuffs…and from the moment the hearing began, the judge blasted Chad for his history of disrespectful behavior. 

 

But after the scolding, the judge agreed to release Johnson today—but extended his probation by one month…meaning he won’t be in the clear until October 16. 

 

 

Johnson, formerly Ocho-Cinco, apologized during the hearing on Monday (via ESPN):

“I just wanted to apologize for disrespecting the court last time,” said Johnson, wearing a tan jail jumpsuit with his hands shackled at the waist. “I apologize. I did have time to reflect on the mistakes I made in this courtroom.”

 

Last week Johnson had been negotiating a plea agreement with no jail time after violating his parole, but Judge McHugh did not take kindly to Johnson’s courtroom antics and ripped up the plea, giving him 30 days in jail instead.

In his prime Chad Johnson, then OchoCinco, was one of the most dangerous & electric receivers in football. He finished his career with 766 catches for 11,059 yards and 67 touchdowns. He was elected to six Pro Bowls and was twice named a First-Team All-Pro selection.

Allen Iverson was a transcendent NBA player for the majority of his career, until things started going down hill since retiring from the league a few years ago. In the most recent news, Iverson’s ex-wife is claiming that he has abducted their children and recently filed a claim in court to regain custody. Here’s the latest from TMZ:

 

Tawanna Iverson just filed legal docs, claiming Allen recently asked for permission to take their five kids on a short vacation to Charlotte, NC from May 22nd-May 26th (and Tawanna agreed) but when May 26th rolled around, the children hadn’t been returned.

 

The kids range in age from 3 to 16 years old.

 

She also claims to have set up a meeting with Allen to exchange the children, but states that he never showed up.

 

 

She believes Iverson is holed up in a Sheraton Hotel in Georgia with the kids.

A judge awarded Tawanna custody of the couple’s five children in 2012, calling Allen a “hindrance” to their well-being, according to the Washington Post’s Kent Babb. The 11-time NBA All-Star lost the custody battle with his former wife after investigators claimed that Allen smelled of alcohol and that his drinking and substance abuse was causing harm to the children.

TMZ’s also reports that jail time is a possibility for the former NBA all-star. 

Such a sad end to a once great career in the NBA, but hatever the case maybe, and we don’t have all the details, for god sake Allen, keep the kids out of it.

Aww summer…. The time to take vacations with your family, go to the beach with friends, grill out by pool, and now time to check out the new NFL cheerleaders swimsuit music videos. This is definitely up for GIF of the Year award. Tim Duncan curing Manu Ginobili’s tragic bald spot in one magic swoop is one of the funnest things you will see all year. What an unexpected victory.

Ginobili’s hair initially began to betray the Argentine about a decade ago, since that time, the blading sphere has rapidly turned into a growing crop-circle, that only the power of the great Tim Duncan can fix.

SP – Patrick Corbin ($7,300): Corbin is coming off of one of his worst starts of the season, but he has a home start today (where he has a 1.60 ERA this season) and is facing the worst offense in the league (by far) in the Marlins.
 
Alternatives: Bud Norris, Shelby Miller, Tim Hudson
 
C – Miguel Montero ($2,300): Don’t look now, but Montero is quietly turning into a good player again (he has a hit in 7 of his last 10 games and is averaging 2.4 FanDuel points per game over that span). At this price, you really just can’t do any better right now.
 
Alternatives: Yadier Molina, Matt Wieters, Russell Martin
 
1B – Allen Craig ($4,200): Craig is 5-for-13 with two home runs against Travis Wood in his career and comes into today hitting .348 over his last six games).
 
Alternatives: Chris Davis, Albert Pujols, Billy Butler, Kendrys Morales
 
2B – Neil Walker ($3,000): Walker has feasted on Mike Leake in his career to the tune of a .346 average, one HR, and 11 RBI over 26 at-bats against Leake in his career. He also hasn’t posted a negative points game since June 9th, so I’m hoping he keeps the good times rolling tonight.
 
Alternatives: Jason Kipnis, Matt Carpenter, Josh Rutledge
 
SS – Starlin Castro ($2,500): I know, I know…he’s been horrible all  year (partly  because his BABIP is really low), but he seems to be turning it around lately with six hits in his last 21 at-bats. It’s also tough to argue with his low price tag, but Jimmy Rollins is another good cheap option tonight if you don’t want to risk it with Castro.
 
Alternatives: Jimmy Rollins, Erick Aybar, Andrelton Simmons, Mike Aviles
 
3B – David Freese ($3,100): I’m tempted to go with Chris Johnson tonight, but Freese is hotter than Hansel right now and is just too hard to pass up at this price. He had his hitting streak snapped a few days ago, but he’s already started another 3-game streak and has a nice righty-lefty matchup tonight to extend that to four games.
 
Alternatives: Chris Johnson, Michael Young, Todd Frazier
 
OF – Mike Trout ($4,800): Trout is in the middle of one of his patented hot streaks (he now has a hit in 8 of his last 10 games and is hitting .341 over that span) and I was fortunate enough to have plenty of money left to fit him in tonight. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s 5-for-10 against Aaron Harang in his career.
 
Alternatives: Jayson Werth, Dexter Fowler, Mike Morse, Josh Hamilton, Matt Holliday, Gerardo Parra, B.J. Upton, Peter Bourjos, Alex Presley
 
OF – Jason Heyward ($3,200): Heyward has finally woken up (he has a hit in 8 of his last 10 games — including 5 multi-hit games in that span) and has great career numbers against Dillon Gee (7-for-15 with one home run).
 
Alternatives: Jayson Werth, Dexter Fowler, Mike Morse, Josh Hamilton, Matt Holliday, Gerardo Parra, B.J. Upton, Peter Bourjos, Alex Presley

Check out this amazing video of Nineteen-year-old Chris Kreis of Fort Myers, as he willing jumps into the ocean to ride on the back of a gigantic whale shark. Yes, the teenager throws all fear out the window to take a ride on the biggest animal in the ocean. The video was shot of the Gulf of Mexico.

Jay-Z has made his mark around the NBA, so why not debut the commercial for his new album than at halftime of Game 5 of the NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat.

The ad was nothing spectacular as it featured Jay-Z in a studio, hanging out with Rick Rubin and Pharrell, while holding a Samsung tablet, talking about a his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail.

Apparently, the album is set to drop July 4, with Samsung planning to give away a million free copies to its smart phone users 72 hours prior to the official release, according to Hannah Karp of The Wall Street Journal.

I’m guessing that the album will do well.

The Spurs three-point sniper, Danny Green, has broke the NBA Finals record for most 3′s in a finals series (23), surpassing Miami’s Ray Allen, he also nearly leveled this kid who was dressed like a ninja in the tunnel. ESPN later revealed this is Tim Duncan’s son.

Luke Donald hit a way-ward tee-shot on the Par 3 third hole at Marion. His ball sailed left of the green and hit a volunteer following the group ahead of Donald. She went down in pain but recovered like a champion. Donald signed a glove and gave it to the volunteer.
